Our role is a little different to other fostering families, we offer short break care to any of the children in our care and support to other families.
We have helped when families are settling new children into their home, when the foster parent has been taken ill or planned support when perhaps they have events where the children cannot attend.
We usually care for the children short term, maybe for a weekend or a week sometimes and some of our children have regular additional support with us as part of their care plan. We get to know all the children as we also organise the childrens events. We have been to Kynren, Beamish, Planet Leisure, Meet the Owls, Pantomimes and had a fabulous Christmas party. We are able to adapt what we offer at any time, to ensure all of our children are offered activities suitable for their age and ability.
It is such a pleasure to be able to care for so many children whilst also developing our relationship with them over time. We have had children come to us for years and they become part of our family as we develop such a strong bond with them. We have found working with the Acorns very different to other places we have fostered as the focus is absolutely on the child and we work together to ensure a stable, safe environment which allows them to thrive. The support offered is exceptional to both the children and the fostering families.
We have never regretted our decision to foster, just that we should have started sooner. If you want to know more about fostering you can talk to us! We can meet to chat about it before you make the decision to apply. Our advice would be don’t hesitate, the team are lovely and won’t put you under any pressure, they understand that fostering is a big decision so they will support you every step of the way.
